Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale - What Makes It Special?

One of the best parts of the Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale, beyond the shopping, is the lovely, warm community of friends and neighbours. The camaraderie is evident on days like the Garage Sale: smiling faces, kind words and an atmosphere of genuine excitement and joy. 

The 2025 Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale was spectacular!

When I moved into the area in 1999, the very first “Giant” Garage Sale was just me! But as my relationships grew, so did the event, until it became this annual milestone for nearly 100 households across a dozen streets. The calls typically begin in April: "Is the Garage Sale happening again this year? When is the Garage Sale?" It’s now something much bigger than me that we all look forward to and plan around. 

It's especially heartwarming to hear about neighbours who choose to donate some or all of their proceeds to organizations that are meaningful to them. It’s a wonderful way to extend the impact of the day. In 2025, nearly $3,000 was raised for causes like: 

• The Bethany Church Food Bank
• Ontario Veterinary College
• Wellspring Cancer Support
• Royal LePage Shelter Foundation
• The Royal Canadian Legion
• and The Salvation Army

I am looking forward to hearing about your delightful finds, successful sales, and any special stories you may have to share! It’s truly one of the things that makes this neighbourhood so special.

Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale - Shopper's Map Coming This Week!

With the Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale coming up this Saturday, it’s time to start planning your route. The neighbourhood will soon be filled with participating homes offering everything from toys and books to furniture and collectibles.

Our neighbourhood has vendors participating on the following streets: 

SHOPPER CHECKLIST:

1. Water, sunscreen & hat
2. Small bills & change
3. Shopping bags

And plan ahead, as there are no public washrooms in the neighbourhood. Nearby options include the Community Centre on Pape, where you may stop in for use of the facilities.

Golden Triangle GIANT Garage Sale Success – Tips from Experienced Sellers

Over the years, we’ve seen some very successful garage sales during the Golden Triangle event. A few simple tips can make a big difference in how your sale goes.

PRICING TIPS:

Start by asking yourself what you would realistically pay for the item. If multiple buyers hesitate or try to negotiate, it may be priced too high. If items aren’t moving, be prepared to adjust prices by late morning.

DISPLAY TIPS: 

Clean your items and set up tables so folks can see your goods easily. Keep like with like: books, magazines in one zone, electronics another, kitchen stuff together, etc. And get a good night's sleep! 

OTHER TIPS:

Have $80-100 in small bills, loonies & twonies for your float at the start of the day. Instead of an easy-to-grab cash box, keep THE cash on yourself by wearing a carpenter's pouch, fanny pack or an apron with pockets. 

If you are selling higher-end items, keep them in one zone with a dedicated, trusted helper in charge of that area, full-time. 

For fragile items, have old newspapers and shopping bags handy for your shoppers.

Hosting your own garage sale is easy, and it's a great way to clear out items you no longer need while being part of a fun neighbourhood event. 

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Anyone who resides in the "Golden Triangle" neighbourhood of East York, ON. Specifically: east of Broadview, west of Donlands, and north of Woodville Ave. See the map below!

HOW TO HOST YOUR OWN SALE?

When you register as a vendor, we will provide you with a free kit with information on how to prepare and set up your wares, general safety tips, plus a checklist, pricing stickers, table signs, and more.

WHAT TYPES OF ITEMS SELL WELL?

In our 27 years of hosting this event, we find items come in and out of fashion, but consistent faves tend to be kids' toys, books, small furniture, kitchenware, and bikes. 

DEADLINE TO REGISTER & GET ON THE MAP?

Sooner is better; you don't really want to be running around the night before trying to get everything clean, labelled, and organized. We encourage vendors to sign up by Wednesday, June 3rd.
